The Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, has secured a commitment from Chinese equipment manufacturer TBEA to establish a power and energy equipment industrial park in Nigeria.
Tegbe secured the commitment during a high-level meeting at TBEA’s headquarters in Beijing as part of his working visit to engage original equipment manufacturers and technical partners involved in the Presidential Power Initiative.
The proposed industrial park is expected to boost local production of critical power-sector equipment, create jobs and strengthen Nigeria’s capacity to manufacture and export equipment for the domestic and regional markets.
Tegbe described TBEA as a strategic long-term development partner and said the Federal Government was seeking investments that would promote technology transfer and build local capacity.
The company also renewed its commitment to accelerate ongoing transmission and distribution projects, including those expected to unlock more than 2,000 megawatts of stranded electricity capacity and improve bulk power supply to the Federal Capital Territory.
Tegbe called for faster completion of Presidential Power Initiative projects and urged the extension of planned grid infrastructure to Nigeria’s East-West corridor.
The meeting also examined opportunities for developing electric-vehicle charging infrastructure as Nigeria modernises its power grid and expands the use of renewable energy and storage technologies.
The minister said the Federal Government remained focused on developing a power sector capable of supporting industrialisation and sustainable economic growth.
