At least three police officers and a local vigilante leader were shot dead by suspected bandits in Tordamisa, Donga Local Government Area, authorities confirmed.
The victims include Corporal Raphael Danjuma, Police Constable Ebenezer Daniel, Police Constable Samuel Bawa, and Nutsa Tyav, a 60-year-old Chairman of the Tordamisa Village Vigilante Group.
The Acting Police Public Relations Officer for Taraba State, ASP Victor Mshelizah, said the operation followed a distress report from a resident that armed men had attacked Tse Kwe village. A police team, led by the Divisional Police Officer of Donga and supported by Special Forces, was deployed to the area.
“On arrival, the suspected bandits opened fire, resulting in a fierce gunfight. CPL Danjuma and PC Daniel sustained fatal injuries, while PC Bawa was initially missing but later found dead in a nearby bush,” the statement said. The body of Nutsa Tyav was also recovered after the attack.
Taraba State Commissioner of Police, CP Betty Enekpen, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the officers and vigilante, extending condolences to their families and praising their bravery in protecting the community.
Security operations have been intensified in the area to track down the perpetrators. The Command urged the public to remain calm and assist security agencies with credible information to ensure the attackers are brought to justice.
