Ibadan, Nigeria – A Chief Magistrate Court in Iyaganku, Ibadan, has ordered the remand of three individuals in connection with the recent tragic stampede at Bashorun Islamic High School.
The accused include Abdullahi Fasasi, the school’s principal; Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat, proprietor of Agidigbo FM; and Naomi Silekunola, estranged wife of the Ooni of Ife.
Presiding over the case on Tuesday, Chief Magistrate Olabisi Ogunkanmi issued the ruling following their arraignment by the Oyo State Police Command. The court premises saw heightened security, with concerned family members and onlookers gathered outside.
The defendants face four charges brought against them by the police, including violations of Section 324 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
Chief Magistrate Ogunkanmi ordered the trio to be remanded at the Agodi Correctional Center pending further directives from the state prosecutor’s office.
The stampede, which occurred last week, has sparked widespread outrage and calls for accountability, as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Further developments are expected as the case progresses.
