TikTok has removed more than 2.1 million videos from its platform in Nigeria during the second quarter of 2024 for violating its community guidelines. The removal is part of the company’s ongoing efforts to strengthen content moderation and ensure a safer environment for users.
According to TikTok’s Community Guidelines Enforcement Report released on Tuesday, 99.1% of the videos were proactively taken down before they were flagged by users, with 90.7% of them removed within 24 hours. These figures underscore TikTok’s dedication to combating harmful content and maintaining a safer platform for its Nigerian audience.
The videos removed represented less than 1% of the total uploads in Nigeria during the quarter.
Globally, the platform reported that it removed over 178 million videos in June 2024, with 144 million of those removals conducted via automated systems. TikTok’s proactive detection rate now stands at 98.2% worldwide, highlighting its improved ability to tackle harmful content swiftly.
The company also reiterated its commitment to investing in technology to further enhance content moderation and address potential risks. Additionally, TikTok emphasized its focus on transparency and safety for its diverse user base both in Nigeria and around the world.
