President Bola Tinubu has approved a final six-month tenure extension for the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Mr. Adewale Adeniyi, allowing him to remain in office until February 2027.
Adeniyi’s current tenure extension was due to expire on August 1, 2026. The additional six months, according to the Presidency, is intended to enable him consolidate the implementation of the National Single Window project and ensure a seamless leadership transition within the Customs Service.
During the extension period, Adeniyi is expected to work closely with the NCS Board to oversee key personnel matters, including the promotion of qualified officers to the rank of Comptroller of Customs and the compulsory retirement of officers who have either attained the age of 60 or completed 35 years in service.
A career customs officer, Adeniyi joined the Nigeria Customs Service after graduating from Obafemi Awolowo University in the late 1980s.
He steadily rose through the ranks, becoming Deputy Comptroller in 2012, Comptroller in 2017, Assistant Comptroller-General in 2020, and Acting Deputy Comptroller-General in January 2023. President Tinubu appointed him Comptroller-General of Customs in June 2023.
The tenure extension is expected to provide continuity in ongoing reforms and strengthen succession planning within the service.
