Bola Tinubu has nominated former Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission, Lamido Yuguda, as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The nomination was disclosed on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who said the appointment is subject to confirmation by the Nigerian Senate.
According to the statement, the nomination was made in line with Section 8(1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007.
Tinubu urged the nominee to discharge his responsibilities with dedication, professionalism, and commitment to ensuring Nigeria’s economic stability and growth.
Yuguda’s nomination follows the recent appointment of former CBN Deputy Governor Bala Bello as Special Adviser to the President on Political Economy.
An economist by training, Yuguda is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and a charterholder of the CFA Institute.
He began his career at the Central Bank in 1984 as a senior supervisor in the foreign operations department. He later served as an economist in the Africa Department of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) between 1997 and 2001 before returning to the apex bank.
Yuguda retired from the CBN in 2016 after serving for six years as Director of the Reserve Management Department.
In February 2024, he was also confirmed as one of the members of the CBN’s Monetary Policy Committee.
