President Bola Tinubu has reconstituted the board of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), appointing Musiliu Oseni as chairman, the presidency announced Thursday. The appointments follow the Senate’s confirmation of the NERC members.
Oseni, who began his service as a NERC Commissioner in January 2017 and later became Vice Chairman, assumed office as chairman on December 1, 2025. His tenure will run until the completion of his ten-year term under the Electricity Act, 2023, according to presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga.
Yusuf Ali, first appointed commissioner in February 2022, was named vice chairman, effective December 1, 2025, and will serve until the end of his first term.
Other board members include:
Nathan Shatti, serving his second term as commissioner since January 2017.
Dafe Akpeneye, also on a second term, first appointed January 2017.
Aisha Bello, serving her second term since December 2020.
Chidi Ike, returning for a second term, originally appointed February 2022.
Fouad Animashaun, appointed commissioner for the first term starting December 2025, an energy economist and former Executive Commissioner/CEO of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission.
President Tinubu urged the NERC board to consolidate and deepen the ongoing transformation of Nigeria’s power sector, in strict adherence to the provisions and spirit of the Electricity Act, 2023.
