President Bola Tinubu has declared that Nigeria’s economy has “turned the corner,” attributing the improvement to reforms introduced by his administration over the past two years. He assured Nigerians that they would soon enjoy the benefits of the economic measures and expressed gratitude for their patience and support.
The President made the remarks on Friday in Ibadan, Oyo State, during the coronation of his friend and political ally, Oba (Sen) Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland. Tinubu said the economic turnaround was made possible through the endurance, sacrifices, and support of Nigerians.
“Today, I am honoured to bring the cheering news that our economy has turned around and there is now light at the end of the tunnel,” he stated.
Tinubu also commended Oba Ladoja for his contributions to Nigeria’s democracy, particularly his resilience as a former governor who survived an illegal impeachment. “I pray that you will live long and be celebrated as one of the rare leaders in history to ascend the throne of your forefathers,” the President said.
Governor Seyi Makinde presented the new Olubadan with the staff of office and a certificate, noting that the coronation had resolved disputes surrounding the traditional throne. “All challenges associated with the Ibadan traditional institution are now behind us,” he said.
Oba Ladoja, who also celebrated his 81st birthday, expressed gratitude to Tinubu and vowed to uphold the trust placed in him by the Olubadan Council and kingmakers. “It is not by power, influence, connection, or money that we are here today. I thank God for bringing me to this moment,” he said.
The event attracted dignitaries including governors from Ondo, Ekiti, and Osun States; former governors Donald Duke, Olagunsoye Oyinola, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Ibikunle Amosun, and Sen. Gbenga Daniel; as well as traditional rulers such as the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Muhammad Abubakar III, the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, and the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye.
President Tinubu was accompanied by Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu and FIRS Chairman Zacch Adedeji, among other officials.
