President Bola Tinubu has expressed delight over the successful rescue of schoolchildren and teachers abducted from Oriire community in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, commending the military, the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force for ending their 56-day captivity.
The President said the coordinated security operation led to the arrest of eight suspected kidnappers, while several others were neutralised, describing the rescue as a major relief for the victims, their families and the nation.
In a statement issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu praised the security agencies for their efforts in securing the victims’ release.
He also sympathised with the rescued children, teachers and their families over the trauma they endured during the prolonged ordeal.
The President commended the Oyo State Government for its collaboration with the Federal Government throughout the rescue operation and urged the state to strengthen security around schools to prevent similar incidents.
Tinubu further directed emergency response agencies to work with the Oyo State Government to provide the rescued victims with the necessary medical care and relief support as they recover.
According to the President, the successful operation brought an end to more than 50 days of captivity and demonstrated the commitment of the nation’s security agencies to protecting lives and restoring peace.
He also assured that those responsible for the abduction would be brought to justice, including those involved in the killing of one of the teachers, Mr. Oyedokun.
Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring justice for the victims and their families while commending the Oyo State Government for its cooperation in achieving the successful rescue.
