The Lagos State Government has announced the resumption of its monthly environmental sanitation exercise, scheduled to hold on Saturday, April 25, 2026, across the state.
The Commissioner for the Environment, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this on Friday, urging residents to actively participate in the cleanup exercise between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.
Wahab dismissed reports suggesting that the exercise had been invalidated by a court ruling, insisting that the state government secured a favourable judgment at the Court of Appeal affirming the legality of the sanitation law.
“Let me address the confusion some have tried to create. No court pronouncement has invalidated this exercise,” he said, adding that enforcement of environmental sanitation remains constitutional and valid.
He stressed that the initiative had been carefully planned over the past year and called on residents to take shared responsibility for maintaining a cleaner environment.
According to him, major transport unions controlling a large portion of commercial vehicles in the state have agreed to suspend operations during the sanitation window.
Wahab also noted that exemptions would apply to emergencies, scheduled flights, and candidates writing the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), while relevant agencies such as the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) had been fully mobilised for waste evacuation.
He added that environmental health officers would monitor compliance and issue abatement notices to defaulters.
Wahab urged residents to support the exercise, describing it as a collective effort toward a cleaner, healthier, and flood-free Lagos State.
