Wale Tinubu, CON, Group Chief Executive of Oando PLC, has received the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at African Energy Week (AEW) 2025, in recognition of his contributions to the growth and transformation of Africa’s energy sector.
The award, one of the highest honours at AEW, is presented annually to leaders whose careers reflect vision, resilience, and lasting impact on the continent’s energy landscape. Previous recipients include Professor Benedict Oramah, President of Afreximbank, who was honoured in 2024; former Presidents Hage Geingob of Namibia and Macky Sall of Senegal in 2023; and Bruno Jean Richard Itoua, Minister of Hydrocarbons of the Republic of Congo, in 2022.
The African Energy Chamber praised Tinubu for his “dedication to advancing Africa’s energy security, bold leadership in guiding Oando through transformation, and his pivotal role in showcasing the power of indigenous companies in driving industrial growth and energy sovereignty.”
Under Tinubu’s leadership, Oando has grown from a local downstream operator into one of Africa’s foremost integrated energy companies, with investments spanning exploration and production, power, and renewables. His vision has not only positioned Oando as a continental leader but also reflected the ambition and resilience of African enterprises on the global stage.
The Lifetime Achievement Award is regarded as a benchmark of excellence at AEW, reserved for industry figures whose careers span more than a decade and whose achievements have left an enduring mark on Africa’s oil, gas, and energy sectors.
Tinubu’s recognition underscores his longstanding commitment to harnessing Africa’s resources for sustainable growth and inspiring the next generation of leaders to believe in the continent’s potential.
