Wema Bank Plc has announced the ninth anniversary of ALAT by Wema, Africa’s first fully digital bank, highlighting nearly a decade of innovation in Nigeria’s financial services sector.
Launched in 2017, ALAT was introduced to address inefficiencies associated with traditional banking, including long queues, physical limitations, and slow transaction processes. The platform enables customers to open accounts, carry out transactions, and manage finances remotely, offering a seamless digital experience.
Over the past nine years, ALAT has evolved into a broad digital ecosystem catering to individuals and businesses. Its offerings include structured savings solutions such as ALAT Goals, simplified payment systems, and expanded access to financial services, contributing to financial inclusion across Nigeria.
To commemorate the milestone, Wema Bank has unveiled the “ALAT at 9” campaign, featuring customer-focused activities, rewards, and engagement initiatives. As part of the celebration, users can access “ALAT Wrapped,” a personalised summary of their usage on the platform, which can be shared on social media.
The bank also introduced the “9 Features in 9 Days” initiative, encouraging customers to interact with specific features daily, with rewards for completing all tasks. Customers conducting their ninth transaction at exactly 9:00 a.m. or 9:00 p.m. are also eligible for instant rewards.
In addition, the campaign includes the ALAT Evolution Jingle Challenge, inviting users to submit creative entries for a chance to win prizes.
Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Wema Bank, Moruf Oseni, described the anniversary as a reflection of the bank’s progress and future direction. He said the campaign aims to reward customers while reinforcing the bank’s commitment to innovation and improved user experience.
Chief Digital Officer, Olusegun Adeniyi, noted that the initiative integrates everyday banking with interactive engagement through personalised insights, gamified features, and incentives.
The anniversary activities are scheduled to run from May 2 to May 31, with customers encouraged to update or download the ALAT app via major app stores to participate.
Wema Bank said the milestone underscores its continued leadership in digital banking, with a focus on delivering adaptive and customer-centric financial solutions.
