In a heartfelt gesture of encouragement and empowerment, Moruf Oseni, Managing Director and CEO of Wema Bank, has donated his one-day salary for May 27 to Chiderije Mbah, a 12-year-old who emerged as the winner of the bank’s 2025 Children’s Day 1-Day MD/CEO Initiative.
The initiative, launched on May 21, 2025, called on children across Nigeria to submit creative video entries outlining their ideal role at Wema Bank and why they deserved the position. Among numerous entries, Chiderije’s submission stood out, earning him the prestigious title of 1-Day MD/CEO and a memorable experience at the bank’s headquarters in Lagos.
During his day in office, Chiderije engaged in executive-level meetings and was ceremoniously handed the symbols of office by Oseni himself, who commended the young leader’s poise, vision, and potential. In a surprise announcement, Oseni donated his entire salary for the day, symbolizing the bank’s belief in rewarding excellence and investing in future leaders.
“As a bank, our mission is to empower lives through innovation—from cradle to grave—as captured in our promise, ‘With You, All The Way,’” Oseni said. “This Children’s Day, we’re not just celebrating; we’re building the future by handing over the reins, even if just for a day. And if Chiderije is MD for the day, he deserves to be paid like one.”
He added that the initiative reflects Wema Bank’s long-standing commitment to nurturing young talent through innovation, inclusivity, and leadership development. “Today’s children are tomorrow’s leaders, and we must give them platforms to thrive.”
