Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared an end to factional divisions in the Peoples Democratic Party following the Supreme Court’s ruling on the party’s leadership dispute.
Speaking in Abuja on Thursday after the judgment, Wike said the decision of the Supreme Court of Nigeria has settled the crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party, insisting that there is now only one recognised leadership structure.
“The Supreme Court judgment has now made it known there is only one PDP, and we no longer hear faction,” he said.
The apex court had earlier voided the PDP national convention held in Ibadan in November 2025, which produced the Tanimu Turaki-led leadership, ruling that it was conducted in violation of subsisting court orders and amounted to an abuse of court process.
The judgment effectively put an end to months of internal disputes over control of the opposition party.
Wike also said the ruling had political implications for supporters of the Turaki-led faction, including Governors Seyi Makinde and Bala Mohammed, noting that their position had been weakened by the court’s decision.
He reaffirmed the legitimacy of a rival convention held in March 2026, which produced Abdulrahman Mohammed and his National Working Committee, describing it as the valid leadership of the party.
