Yusuf Muhammadu Buhari, son of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for the Daura/Sandamu/Mai’Adua Federal Constituency in Katsina State after defeating Auwal Lawal Musa, son of former DSS Director-General Lawal Musa Daura, in the party’s primary election.
The exercise was conducted peacefully and supervised by the APC constituency committee alongside party leaders, with stakeholders commending its orderly conduct in line with the party’s internal democracy guidelines.
Announcing the results, Returning Officer Hon. Lawal Garba said the process followed established electoral procedures.
According to official figures, the constituency recorded 35,825 registered voters, with 18,263 accredited and 17,832 votes cast.
In Daura Local Government Area, Yusuf Buhari polled 6,386 votes, while Auwal Lawal Musa secured 322 votes. In Mai’Adua, Buhari scored 5,102 votes against 137 for Musa, while in Sandamu he recorded 5,849 votes to Musa’s 21.
At the end of collation, Garba declared Yusuf Muhammadu Buhari winner with a total of 17,342 votes, while Auwal Lawal Musa polled 480 votes across the three local government areas.
The primary was conducted under the APC’s direct primary system in constituencies where consensus was not achieved, in line with the party’s constitution and the Electoral Act.
