The Chiefs of Defence Staff of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) on Friday called for the reintegration of Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso into the regional bloc.
During a visit to the National Counter-Terrorism Centre in Abuja, General Christopher Musa, Chairman of the ECOWAS Committee of Chiefs of Defence Staff and Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, emphasized that the return of these countries is crucial for addressing the rising insecurity in the region, particularly insurgency.
General Musa highlighted ongoing efforts by the ECOWAS Chiefs of Defence Staff to facilitate the rejoining of these nations, stressing the importance of collective action to combat insecurity in West Africa.
Major General Adamu Laka, National Coordinator of the Counter-Terrorism Centre, also underscored the need for regional cooperation and experience-sharing among West African countries to effectively combat terrorism.
