Chelsea has successfully finalized the signing of Pedro Neto from Wolverhampton Wanderers in a deal worth £54 million. The agreement includes an initial payment of £51.4 million, with an additional £2.6 million in potential add-ons. Neto, 24, has committed to a seven-year contract with the Blues.
The Portuguese winger was officially introduced to Chelsea fans at Stamford Bridge during halftime of Sunday’s pre-season friendly against Inter Milan. “I feel really grateful to have joined this club,” said Neto. “I have worked really hard in my career to be here and I’m looking forward to getting on the pitch with this shirt.”
Wolves acknowledged the transfer in a statement, describing it as “the right deal at the right time” for the club. They also assured fans that work is ongoing to identify potential replacements for Neto. “We’ve been working on options and on targets, and that work keeps going,” the statement read.
Neto, who scored three goals and provided 11 assists last season despite missing three months due to hamstring injuries, was also a target for Tottenham Hotspur this summer. His strong performances for Wolves earned him a spot in Portugal’s Euro 2024 squad.
At Chelsea, Neto will join a formidable group of wide players, including Cole Palmer, Noni Madueke, Mykhailo Mudryk, and Raheem Sterling, ahead of the new season. The Blues have been active in the transfer market, making Neto their 10th signing of the summer. Other notable signings include Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Filip Jorgensen, and Tosin Adarabioyo. Additionally, a deal has been completed for Palmeiras teenager Estevao Willian, who will join the squad next summer.
Chelsea is also set to finalize a £34.5 million deal for Atletico Madrid striker Samu Omorodion, with Conor Gallagher expected to move in the opposite direction for £36 million. The club has also shown interest in Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley as a potential replacement for Gallagher.
With the summer transfer window closing on August 30 at 11pm UK time, Chelsea continues to build a squad under new manager Enzo Maresca, aiming to implement a style of play reminiscent of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City and Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal. Neto, known for his effectiveness in one-on-one situations, is expected to be a key player in Maresca’s aggressive tactical setup.
