In a profound sermon at this year’s conference themed “Manifesting God’s Glory”, Prof. Jaiyeola Temitope Gabriel emphasized the importance of cultivating virtues and character in the life of a believer. Drawing from the analogy of a seed’s growth, he highlighted the spiritual journey required for true manifestation in Christ.
“For a seed to grow out of the ground, it must experience rupture,” Prof. Gabriel stated, comparing this to the believer’s need to die to sin and grow in their walk with the Holy Ghost. He explained that the manifestation of virtue directly contributes to one’s character, stressing, “It is what people see that you manifest that they will attribute to you. Hence, endeavor to show forth the fruits of the Spirit.”
He urged believers to immerse themselves in positive teachings and inspiring sermons, which help eliminate negativity and foster spiritual growth. “For a man to manifest, you must be in the right station,” he advised. “Faith and virtue are two key ingredients in manifesting God’s glory. Don’t lose any of it.”
Prof. Gabriel expounded on the conference theme, underscoring that the manifestation of God’s glory is central to Christianity, reflecting God’s presence, power, and holiness. He traced this theme through biblical events, from the burning bush to the life and work of Jesus Christ, emphasizing that God’s glory is ultimately expressed through us and the Church via the Holy Spirit, spiritual gifts, and the fruits of the Spirit.
Using the metaphor of tree growth, Prof. Gabriel explained that just as a seed must rupture and establish roots before bearing fruit, believers must first establish a strong foundation in Christ. “The development of radicle into the root of a plant represents the character formation of an individual,” he said, adding that this foundation is crucial for sustaining growth in virtue.
