The Kano State Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Hashimu Dungurawa, has cautioned President Bola Tinubu to brace for defeat in the 2027 general elections, citing what he described as the administration’s anti-masses policies.
Speaking to journalists in Kano on Thursday, Dungurawa expressed confidence that the NNPP would secure victories across the 36 states, including the presidency, in the next election cycle.
“With your unfriendly, anti-masses policies, Nigerians are already aligning with the NNPP for 2027. Either you change your approach, or Nigerians will collectively change you,” Dungurawa stated.
Criticism of Tinubu’s Policies
Dungurawa accused President Tinubu of enacting policies that have exacerbated the hardships faced by ordinary Nigerians since his inauguration on May 29, 2023.
“From day one, the President has imposed policies that make life unbearable for Nigerians, as though they have offended him. These challenges, deliberately created by the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government, will ensure his ousting in 2027,” he said.
Dungurawa reaffirmed the NNPP’s commitment to bringing Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso, whom he described as “a true democrat,” to power.
NNPP’s Growing National Presence
The chairman highlighted the party’s extensive grassroots mobilization efforts, including the establishment of offices and structures in all states and local government areas. He pointed to the NNPP’s recent successes in 2024 and its ongoing progress in 2025 as indicators of its readiness to contest and win both state and federal seats.
“You can see the transformative work being done in Kano State under our God-fearing governor. With improvements in infrastructure, empowerment, and human development, Kano now competes with modern cities globally,” Dungurawa said.
Allegations of Federal Government Bias
Dungurawa raised concerns over alleged attempts by the APC-led Federal Government to impose a one-party system, describing it as a threat to democracy. He urged the government to implement policies that would alleviate the suffering of Nigerians.
Denial of Kwankwaso-APC Defection Rumors
Dungurawa also dismissed rumors suggesting that NNPP national leader, Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso, was considering a return to the APC.
“The allegations are baseless and aimed at tarnishing Kwankwaso’s reputation and growing popularity,” he said.
The NNPP chairman’s remarks underscore the party’s determination to challenge the APC’s dominance and position itself as a formidable force in Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of 2027.
