Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has congratulated his colleague Tems for winning the “Best African Music Performance” category at the 67th Grammy Awards.
Tems clinched the award with her hit song Love Me Jeje, marking her second Grammy win. She previously won for her contribution to Future’s chart-topping single Wait For U.
Davido shared a photo of Tems on his Instagram story, captioning it, “Congrats Queen!”
The Best African Music Performance category was introduced by the Recording Academy last year. This year’s nominees included Tomorrow by Yemi Alade, MMS by Asake, Sensational by Chris Brown featuring Davido and Lojay, and Higher by Burna Boy. The category debuted in 2023, with South Africa’s Tyla winning for her hit song Water, a fusion of amapiano and Afropop.
While receiving her award, an emotional Tems paid tribute to her mother, whose birthday coincided with the ceremony.
“Wow, dear God. Thank you so much for putting me on this stage and bringing me this team,” she said. “Tomorrow is my mum’s birthday, and this is her first Grammys. I just want to thank you, ma, because she has really done a lot for me and my brother.”
She also expressed gratitude to her team, including Muyiwa, Wale, her stylist Dunsin, and close friends.
“To God be the glory. Honestly, He has changed my life so much. Thank you, thank you, God,” she added.
