The South Africa leg of the MIP 5 Fellowship has concluded after a study tour that exposed fellows to key institutions and perspectives on journalism, media and communication across the continent.
During the tour, the fellows visited and engaged with institutions including the University of Johannesburg, MTN Group, Primedia, the Press Council of South Africa, Brand South Africa and the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS).
Discussions focused on the business of journalism, cross-border storytelling and the role of the media in shaping narratives in Nigeria, South Africa and across Africa.
The fellowship also featured cultural and historical visits to Soweto, the Apartheid Museum and Constitution Hill, providing the fellows with insights into South Africa’s history and heritage.
The organisers said the fellows returned with new knowledge, professional connections and perspectives that would strengthen their storytelling and contribute to a broader understanding of the African media landscape.
