Members of the Rivers State caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the National Assembly have pledged their support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027, citing the visible impact of his administration’s economic policies.
The declaration was made on Saturday in Port Harcourt through a statement jointly signed by all nine lawmakers and read on their behalf by Senator Barry Mpigi. The caucus comprises Senators Barry Mpigi and Allwell Onyesoh, along with seven House of Representatives members—Rt. Hon. Dumnamene Dekor, Solomon Bob, Felix Nwaeke, Kelechi Nwogu, Cyril Hart, Victor Obuzor, and Blessing Amadi.
The lawmakers praised the Tinubu administration’s “Renewed Hope Agenda,” describing it as the most viable path toward economic recovery and national progress. They commended the president’s bold reforms, which they said are addressing the damage inherited from previous administrations, including Nigeria’s debt burden, infrastructure deficits, and inflation.
“We have carefully reviewed the President’s economic policies targeted at repositioning our moribund economy and have come to the conclusion that they are the surest way out of our current social and economic challenges,” the statement read. “The declining inflation rate, reduced foreign debt profile, and the IMF’s promising economic projections all point to better days ahead.”
The caucus also expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for appointing former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), lauding Wike’s performance and the President’s recognition of his contributions.
They further thanked Tinubu for his intervention in the political crisis in Rivers State, saying his actions have laid the foundation for peace and stability in the state.
“As representatives of the people, we unequivocally declare our resolve to support and work toward the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027,” the lawmakers affirmed. “We will mobilize greater support than we did in 2023 to ensure his continued leadership.”
The group urged all presidential hopefuls to reconsider their ambitions and instead rally behind Tinubu, whom they described as the best candidate to consolidate Nigeria’s progress.
