The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has cautioned Nigerian travellers against the improper use of U.S. entry visas and urged strict adherence to immigration regulations to avoid visa revocation or legal consequences.
In a statement signed by its National Public Relations Officer, Assistant Comptroller Abdullahi Maiwada, the NCS said U.S. authorities had raised concerns over Nigerians using visas for purposes inconsistent with their travel classification.
“Security vetting does not end when a visa is granted or upon arrival in the U.S.,” the statement noted. “Any breach of immigration rules may result in revocation.”
The advisory reminded travellers of legal obligations to declare cash or negotiable instruments exceeding $10,000 at entry or exit points, in line with U.S. and Nigerian financial disclosure laws.
The NCS also warned against carrying prohibited items and urged citizens to maintain lawful conduct both at home and abroad.
In an effort to prevent diplomatic fallout or visa restrictions, the Service said it is engaging with the U.S. Mission in Abuja to safeguard access for legitimate travellers and businesspersons.
The warning comes amid increasing global scrutiny on migration and national border protocols.
