Ex-National Concord MD Doyin Abiola Dies at 82

By Ayomide Otitoju

Doyin Abiola, former Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of the defunct National Concord newspapers, has died at the age of 82.

Abiola, wife of the late Chief MKO Abiola, reportedly passed away on Tuesday night. She made history in 1986 when she was appointed MD and Editor-in-Chief of the Concord titles, becoming the first Nigerian woman to hold such a position in a daily newspaper.

Her journalism career at the Concord Group spanned three decades, during which she also played key roles in Nigeria’s media development. She was the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award of the Diamond Awards for Media Excellence (DAME) and chaired the nominating panel of the maiden Nigerian Media Merit Award (NMMA).
