Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, on Friday paid a high-profile visit to the MTN Data Centre booth at the GITEX Nigeria Tech Expo, highlighting the state government’s commitment to advancing a robust digital economy.
The visit underscored the partnership between Lagos State and private sector players in driving innovation toward Nigeria’s ambitious target of building a $1 trillion digital economy by 2030.
Sanwo-Olu and Hamzat were received by MTN’s Chief Operating Officer, Ayham Moussa, and Chief Information Officer, Shoyinka Shodunke, who led them through an exhibition showcasing the company’s investments in data infrastructure and next-generation connectivity.
Moussa, who also spoke during a panel session titled “The Big Push for Infrastructure and Next-Gen Connectivity”, stressed the importance of public-private collaboration in accelerating infrastructure growth. “Collaboration between governments, regulators, and private sector players is paramount to creating an enabling environment for innovation and widespread access to next-gen connectivity,” he said.
The Lagos government described the visit as a demonstration of its support for initiatives that foster digital inclusion and economic growth, while MTN reiterated its role as a key digital backbone in Nigeria’s ongoing digital transformation.
