The Royal Iwere Foundation, under the leadership of Their Majesties Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Olu of Warri, and Olori Atuwatse III, has hosted the UN Women Nigeria Representative, Ms. Beatrice Eyong, in a high-level meeting aimed at promoting gender equality and inclusive development.
Held in Warri, the engagement focused on deepening collaboration between UN Women and the Warri Kingdom to advance women’s empowerment, economic inclusion, and community development.
According to a statement on Tuesday, discussions centered on ongoing initiatives within the Kingdom that support women and girls in education, entrepreneurship, and leadership. Both parties expressed commitment to scaling up interventions that create sustainable opportunities for women and young people.
“Traditional institutions are powerful drivers of social transformation,” Ms. Eyong stated. “UN Women is committed to working closely with Their Majesties and the Royal Iwere Foundation to amplify the remarkable efforts already underway in Warri Kingdom and ensure that no woman or girl is left behind.”
Their Majesties reaffirmed their dedication to partnerships that promote women’s economic empowerment, gender equality, and community resilience, emphasizing that the Kingdom’s vision aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The visit underscores UN Women’s strategy of engaging traditional and community leaders to bridge global gender equality frameworks with local realities, ensuring women’s voices and leadership remain central to Nigeria’s sustainable development efforts.
