SENUKCHAM, MSGBC 2025 Partner to Deepen UK-West Africa Energy Ties

By Ayomide Otitoju

The Senegal-UK Chamber of Commerce (SENUKCHAM) has announced its participation as a Strategic Partner at the upcoming MSGBC Oil, Gas & Power 2025 conference and exhibition, scheduled to take place from December 9–10 in Dakar. The partnership highlights the growing footprint of UK investment and expertise across West Africa’s rapidly expanding energy and extractive industries.

In collaboration with the British Embassy in Dakar, SENUKCHAM played a pivotal role in launching the British Chamber of Commerce in Senegal in June 2025, marking a milestone in strengthening bilateral trade and investment ties. The Chamber serves as a gateway for UK companies entering the Senegalese market and supports Senegalese firms seeking opportunities in the United Kingdom.

British firms continue to contribute significantly to Senegal’s energy transformation. Energy major bp leads operations at the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) LNG project—an integrated, cross-border development shared with Mauritania and executed alongside Kosmos Energy, Petrosen, and SMH. The project achieved a major milestone in April 2025 with the first export of liquefied natural gas (LNG), signaling the start of full-scale production. Phase 1 of the project is projected to deliver about 2.4 million tons of LNG annually.

Across the MSGBC region, UK companies are advancing new frontiers in energy and mining. In Mauritania, bp is driving gas exploration and large-scale green hydrogen development, while in Guinea-Conakry, London-based Rio Tinto is spearheading the Simandou iron ore project—one of the world’s largest untapped deposits—with production expected to commence by late 2025. Meanwhile, AngloGold Ashanti, a UK-linked miner, continues to play a vital role at Guinea-Conakry’s Siguiri gold mine.

SENUKCHAM’s partnership with MSGBC Oil, Gas & Power 2025 reflects its mission to deepen UK engagement in West Africa’s energy and industrial sectors. The Chamber aims to use the Dakar platform to foster dialogue among policymakers, investors, and enterprises, promoting British innovation and sustainable energy collaboration across Senegal, Mauritania, The Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, and Guinea-Conakry.

“The UK has played an important role in shaping Senegal and the wider MSGBC region’s energy landscape—from pioneering LNG developments to advancing new frontiers in hydrogen and mining,” said Sandra Jeque, Project Director at Energy Capital & Power. “This partnership reinforces our shared commitment to fostering sustainable growth, international collaboration, and cross-border investment across West Africa’s energy sector.”
