Fintiri Distances Himself from PDP’s Expulsion of Wike

By Ayomide Otitoju

Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has dissociated himself from the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) decision to expel the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, saying he will not support actions capable of deepening the party’s internal crisis.

The governor’s position was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by his Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou. Fintiri, who also serves as Chairman of the PDP 2025 Elective National Convention, said the expulsion move was not in the best interest of the opposition party.

“As a faithful party member, my position is clear: I stand for the peace and stability of the PDP, and I will not support anything that could lead to its disintegration,” he said. “I believe that peace and reconciliation are the only ways forward for our great party.”

Fintiri urged party stakeholders to prioritise healing, unity, and cohesion, stressing that his commitment remains to efforts that promote peace, stability and progress within the PDP.

The governor reiterated that his stance is guided by the need for reconciliation and vowed to continue supporting initiatives that strengthen the party.

PDP Expels Wike, Fayose, Others Over Alleged Anti-Party Activities

The PDP on Saturday expelled Wike, former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, and eight others over alleged anti-party activities. The decision was taken during the party’s national convention held at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan, Oyo State.

A PDP chieftain, Bode George, moved the motion for the expulsion of the 11 members, accusing them of engaging in activities detrimental to the collective interest of the party. The chairman of the PDP in Bauchi State seconded the motion.

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State subsequently presented the motion for adoption, and delegates unanimously endorsed the expulsions.

The convention was attended by Governors Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), PDP National Chairman Umar Damagum, Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro, former Osun State Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, former Gombe State Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo, Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees Senator Adolphus Wabara, and other party leaders.
