The Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) has approved N443,408,923.03 for the supply and installation of fire-fighting equipment at the College of Nursing Science, Umueze-Isuofia, in Aguata Local Government Area.
The approval was issued during the 23rd ANSEC meeting held on Monday, 17 November 2025, at the new Government House, the Light House Awka, according to the Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor.
Mefor said the decision aligns with Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo’s ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening safety standards and improving infrastructure across educational institutions in the state.
He added that the Council also reaffirmed its call for full university autonomy in the selection of vice chancellors and formally welcomed the newly appointed Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Professor Ugochukwu Anyaehie, wishing him a successful tenure.
The Commissioner noted that Governor Soludo’s administration has continued to invest heavily in the education sector. Recent initiatives include the rehabilitation of public schools, procurement of smart boards and tablets for teachers in 22 smart schools, and the reconstruction of Boys’ Secondary School, Uga.
The administration’s free-education policy now extends up to Senior Secondary School 3 (SS3), supported by the recruitment of 3,115 additional teachers, bringing the total to 8,115.
Over 60 secondary school laboratories have been equipped with STEM facilities, while operational budgets for primary and secondary schools have been expanded to enhance teaching and learning.
At the tertiary level, Soludo restored electricity to the Uli campus of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) after 21 years, alongside provision of free internet access. The state has also completed a state-of-the-art trauma centre at the COOU Teaching Hospital, Amaku-Awka— the first such government-owned facility in the Southeast.
