Anambra ANSEC Rejects False Death Rumours About Ex-Governor Obiano

By Ayomide Otitoju

The Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) has condemned as false, reckless, and malicious the social media rumour claiming that former Governor Willie Obiano has died.

The Council issued the rebuttal during its 23rd meeting held on Monday, 17 November 2025, at the Light House, Awka. Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, described the circulating report as “sad and irresponsible,” noting that the former governor is in good health.

Earlier, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, Christian Aburime, confirmed that Governor Soludo had personally spoken with Obiano and verified that he is “alive, hale, and hearty.” Aburime said the governor expressed concern over the growing trend of unverified and malicious online rumours, urging media practitioners to adhere to journalistic ethics and verify information before publication.

Governor Soludo stressed that the dissemination of such unfounded claims is harmful and undermines public trust. He urged the public to disregard the rumour and rely solely on credible official channels for information.
