The Anambra State Government has clarified that a poorly executed Christmas decoration at a local roundabout, widely circulated on social media, was not sponsored or approved by the state, dismissing claims that it reflected the government’s festive arrangements.
State Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, stated that the decoration was the initiative of a private citizen and was installed without any involvement or endorsement from government authorities. “Upon becoming aware of the installation and the public dissatisfaction it generated, the government promptly directed its removal to maintain the aesthetic standards and dignity of our public spaces. The decoration has since been dismantled, and we assure citizens that such unauthorised interventions will not be tolerated moving forward,” Mefor said.
The Commissioner reaffirmed Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo’s administration’s commitment to fiscal prudence and responsible governance, noting that public spending in the state is guided by strategic and cost-effective principles to deliver maximum value to citizens.
As part of the state’s festive programme, Anambra is offering residents and visitors a series of engaging events under the ‘Onwa Dezemba’ initiative, launched on December 18, 2025, and running through January 4, 2026. The programme features activities for all age groups, including youth parties, Christmas carols, children’s funfests, cultural performances, music concerts, football matches, and family-oriented entertainment.
The government said these activities are designed to foster unity, joy, and meaningful engagement, reflecting the administration’s focus on people-centered policies and lasting impact. Citizens were urged to disregard misinformation and focus on participating in the state’s well-organized festive celebrations that embody the true spirit of the season.
