Mohamed Salah resumed training with Liverpool on Tuesday following the Africa Cup of Nations, as the club prepares for their Champions League fixture against Marseille.
The Egypt forward participated in a light session alongside his teammates at the club’s training centre. His return comes after a turbulent period in which he publicly criticised Liverpool, accusing the club of “throwing him under the bus” after being benched for three consecutive games and claiming a strained relationship with manager Arne Slot.
Salah made a substitute appearance in Liverpool’s 2-0 Premier League win over Brighton on 13 December, providing an assist, with Slot indicating the club had moved past the dispute. Last week, Slot confirmed he was “happy” with Salah’s return but declined to reveal details of their discussions. The manager remains uncertain whether Salah will feature against Marseille on Wednesday.
Liverpool currently sit ninth in the Champions League group stage. Only the top eight automatically advance to the last 16, while teams ranked ninth to 24th enter a play-off round.
Salah, who scored 29 league goals to claim the Premier League Golden Boot last season and helped Liverpool secure their 20th English league title, has managed just four goals so far in the current campaign.
