Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has pledged the state government’s support for the successful hosting of the 2026 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards scheduled for December 7 in Lagos.
Sanwo-Olu gave the assurance on Sunday while receiving a CAF delegation led by the Project Lead for the CAF Awards and CAF General Assembly, Dr Christian Emeruwa, at Lagos House, Marina.
The governor said the state government would prioritise security, logistics, branding and venue access to ensure a smooth and successful event.
He described Lagos as a major commercial, cultural, entertainment and technology hub in Africa, noting that its diverse population, youthful demographics and economic importance made it suitable for hosting international events.
Sanwo-Olu added that the state was committed to providing a positive experience for CAF officials, football stakeholders and international visitors, while showcasing Lagos’ hospitality and capacity to host major global engagements.
Earlier, Emeruwa said the delegation was in Nigeria for a five-day mission to inspect proposed venues and assess preparations for the CAF Awards in Lagos and the CAF General Assembly in Abuja.
He described the CAF Awards as one of Africa’s major annual football events, recognising outstanding players, officials and national teams for their achievements during the year under review.
According to him, the December 7 ceremony is expected to attract prominent figures in African and international football, including representatives of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) and other international guests.
Emeruwa also sought the support of the Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency (LASAA) to facilitate publicity and branding across the state.
He further requested that security operations be coordinated by the Lagos State Government in collaboration with CAF’s security team.
