Segun Speaks on Africa’s Energy Future at IEW 2026

By Ayomide Otitoju

At the International Energy Week (IEW) 2026 in London from February 10–12, NNPC Ltd’s Chief Financial Officer, Adedapo Segun, addressed a distinguished panel on Africa’s energy future.

Segun stressed the urgency for African nations to prioritize energy access for their populations while tapping into green financing solutions to drive sustainable growth. He noted that energy policies must align with Africa’s unique realities, particularly given the continent’s relatively small contribution to global emissions.

Pointing to regional collaboration, Segun highlighted the African-Atlantic Gas Pipeline Project as a strategic effort to enhance energy access and security across African nations. He explained that developing infrastructure to monetize Nigeria’s estimated 200 trillion standard cubic feet of gas would not only boost energy supply but also provide a long-term solution to the country’s revenue challenges.

The IEW serves as a leading global platform, bringing together policymakers, industry executives, investors, regulators, and innovators to shape discussions on energy security, transition pathways, investment, and sustainability.
