The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has extended greetings to Christians and Muslims nationwide on the commencement of this year’s Lenten and Ramadan fasting periods.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, the governor urged the faithful to use the fasting season for prayer, reflection, and seeking God’s guidance.
Sanwo-Olu encouraged Nigerians, particularly Lagosians, to remain steadfast in prayer for peace, stability, and national prosperity.
“I congratulate Lagosians and Nigerians, especially Christians and Muslims, on the start of this year’s Lent and Ramadan,” he said. “These periods are significant as they teach abstinence from worldly pleasures, steadfastness in prayer, and total submission to God’s will. The fact that these observances begin on the same day is, I believe, a divine design for our nation and the world.”
The governor emphasized that Lent and Ramadan are key seasons in the Christian and Islamic calendars, providing opportunities for spiritual renewal and appeals for divine mercy, grace, and forgiveness.
He further called on citizens to uphold tolerance, good behavior, and kindness, while collectively praying for continued peace, unity, and stability in Lagos State and across Nigeria.
