The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to enhancing corporate governance and leadership capacity through closer collaboration with the Chartered Institute of Directors Nigeria (CIoD).
The Governor made the remarks during a courtesy visit by the CIoD Governing Council, led by its President and Chairman, Otunba Adetunji Oyebanji, at Lagos House, Marina over the weekend.
Sanwo-Olu described the Institute as a key partner in promoting sound governance in both public and private sectors, emphasizing that leadership training and institutional integrity are vital to national development. He highlighted the State Government’s push to establish the Lagos International Financial Centre, stressing that strong institutions and transparent processes are crucial to attracting foreign investment.
The Governor noted that Lagos is collaborating with the Federal Government and other stakeholders to position itself as a competitive global investment destination, with credible professional bodies such as CIoD playing a validating role. He also disclosed the recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council to strengthen trade and investment ties across Commonwealth countries.
Sanwo-Olu assured CIoD of continued government support for conferences, capacity-building initiatives, and future development projects in Lagos.
Otunba Oyebanji commended the Lagos State Government for its reform-driven agenda and institutional development, reaffirming CIoD’s readiness to partner with the state to advance governance excellence, leadership capacity, and sustainable development.
He praised the active participation of permanent secretaries and directors from Lagos State ministries and agencies as evidence of the state’s commitment to institutionalizing best governance practices. Oyebanji also encouraged expanding CIoD membership to senior public officers and members of the State Executive Council not yet included.
