LIRS Shifts Tax Filing Deadline to April 14

By Ayomide Otitoju

The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has extended the deadline for filing individual annual income tax returns by two weeks, moving it from April 1 to April 14, 2026.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Executive Chairman of LIRS, Ayodele Subair, noted that while the statutory deadline remains March 31 each year, the extension is aimed at giving taxpayers additional time to complete and submit accurate returns.

Subair urged individuals to prioritise timely compliance, stressing that filing annual income tax returns should be treated as a routine obligation.

He also reiterated that electronic submission via the LIRS eTax platform remains the only approved method, following the complete phase-out of manual filings. Taxpayers are required to file exclusively through the official eTax portal.

Describing the platform as secure, user-friendly, and accessible круглосуточно, he advised taxpayers to ensure that their Tax Identification Number (TaxID) is correctly captured in all submissions.

The agency encouraged taxpayers seeking assistance to visit any LIRS office or contact the service through its designated support channels.
