African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) has successfully concluded a three-year dual tranche syndicated term loan facility totaling $2 billion equivalent, comprising $1.73 billion under US Dollar Facility A and €228 million under Euro Facility B.

The facility, finalised on March 9, 2026, will be used to refinance existing obligations and support general corporate purposes, the bank said.

Originally launched at $1.5 billion, the transaction attracted strong investor interest and was oversubscribed, with total commitments reaching $2.36 billion equivalent. However, allocations were scaled back to the final $2 billion size.

Speaking on the development, Afreximbank’s Managing Director, Treasury and Markets, Chandi Mwenebungu, described the deal as the bank’s largest syndicated borrowing to date, highlighting it as a testament to sustained investor confidence in its credit profile and market access.

The facility drew participation from 31 lenders across Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Africa, reflecting broad geographic diversification.

Mashreqbank PSC, MUFG Bank Ltd, and Standard Chartered Bank acted as Joint Global Coordinators, Initial Mandated Lead Arrangers, and Bookrunners for the transaction, with Standard Chartered also serving as Documentation Agent and Facility Agent.
