The National Onion Producers, Processors and Marketers Association of Nigeria (NOPPMAN) has announced an immediate suspension of onion exports to Ghana following a fresh trade dispute between Nigerian and Ghanaian traders.
Aliyu Maitamasamu, NOPPMAN’s National President, made the announcement at a press conference in Sokoto, citing reports of harassment and alleged seizure of onion-laden trucks belonging to Nigerian traders at Accra’s Kotoku Market.
Maitamasamu stated that the suspension will remain in effect for all shipments along the Ghana corridor until the safety and rights of Nigerian traders are guaranteed. He stressed that continuing exports under current conditions would expose traders to losses and risk.
He further called for protective measures to ensure fair and secure trade, warning that shipments would not resume until Nigerian traders’ interests are safeguarded.
