Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has outlined key gains his successor will inherit as his administration prepares for a transition to a new government.
The governor disclosed that his administration is finalising a comprehensive Legacy and Transition Bill aimed at institutionalising major policy frameworks from his government and previous administrations into enduring structures to guide future governance.
Sanwo-Olu said the bill would be transmitted to the Lagos State House of Assembly later this year, noting that the incoming administration would inherit not only completed projects but also efficient governance systems.
He spoke at the 19th Executive-Legislative Parley organised by the Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, held at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island.
The three-day event, themed “Equal Participation in Governance: Highlighting the Importance of Collaboration in Achieving the Present Administration’s THEMES+ Agenda,” drew participants including members of the State Executive Council, lawmakers, National Assembly members of Lagos origin, All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders, and members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC).
Sanwo-Olu stated that the final full year of his administration would focus on completing critical infrastructure projects, stressing that no project of strategic importance would be abandoned.
He also announced plans to publish a comprehensive “State of Lagos Report” by the third quarter of the year, providing a data-driven account of the administration’s achievements over the past seven years.
The governor further pledged to convene a Citizens’ Assembly to promote inclusive governance by engaging women, youth, persons with disabilities, and other underrepresented groups.
As the transition approaches, Sanwo-Olu cautioned political office holders against distractions and urged them to remain focused on delivering on governance priorities.
He commended the Lagos State House of Assembly for its support, noting that key legislations, budget approvals, and oversight functions had been instrumental to the success of his administration’s programmes.
Earlier, the Special Adviser on Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, Dr Tajudeen Afolabi, said the annual parley had, over nearly two decades, strengthened collaboration among political stakeholders in the state.
