The Deputy Governor of Lagos State and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, has urged Nigerians to embrace peace, patience, and respect for human life, calling for greater unity and obedience to the rule of law.
Hamzat made the call on Wednesday after the Eid-el-Kabir prayer at the Dodan Barracks praying ground in Ikoyi, where he joined President Bola Tinubu and other worshippers for the annual celebration.
He stressed the need for Nigerians to live in harmony, noting that fear of God should reflect in how people treat one another.
“We must be patient with each other, obedient to the rule of law, and fear God. To fear God means you do not kill or hurt another human being. Therefore, we must live in peace and harmony,” he said.
The Deputy Governor also called on parents and guardians to instil strong moral values in their children, stressing that raising responsible citizens is key to building a peaceful society.
According to him, children must be taught to act responsibly and consider the impact of their behaviour on their families and communities.
“Our children should be taught to consider how their conduct reflects on their family name and society at large,” he added.
Hamzat further warned that declining compassion and tolerance contribute to insecurity and violence, expressing hope that Nigerians would reject hatred and embrace peaceful coexistence.
In his sermon, the Chief Imam of Lagos, Sheikh Sulaimon Oluwatoyin Abou-Nolla, also called on Muslims and Nigerians at large to shun violence, indiscipline, and terrorism, urging greater commitment to national unity and development.
He described Islam as a religion of peace and compassion and emphasised the importance of sacrifice and national cohesion, citing the legacies of past leaders who promoted selflessness and unity.
