The Sahara Group Foundation has commissioned a new Sahara Go Recycling Hub in Masaka, Nasarawa State, expanding access to structured recycling services in Northern Nigeria.
The project, delivered in partnership with the Nasarawa State Waste Management Authority (NASWAMSA), is aimed at promoting community-based sustainability solutions and strengthening waste management efforts across the country.
According to a statement by the Foundation, the Sahara Go Recycling Initiative transforms waste management into economic opportunities by diverting recyclable materials from landfills, enhancing environmental awareness, and creating income-generating opportunities for households.
The Foundation said the Masaka hub further advances these objectives while aligning with its Sahara Beyond XXX vision of building sustainable ecosystems that create long-term value for communities, people, and the environment.
Speaking at the commissioning, Director of Sahara Group Foundation, Chidilim Menakaya, described the project as a key milestone in expanding sustainable waste management solutions across Nigeria.
“Masaka represents an important next step in expanding access to sustainable waste management across Nigeria,” she said.
“Through the Sahara Go Recycling initiative, we are demonstrating how collaboration can foster cleaner communities, stronger livelihoods, and shared prosperity. This reflects the practical and inclusive impact that Sahara Beyond XXX stands for—creating sustainable value at scale through EXTRApreneurship.”
The commissioning ceremony attracted representatives of Sahara Group and Sahara Group Foundation, officials of the Nasarawa State Waste Management Authority, local government representatives, community leaders, development partners, volunteers, and residents, underscoring broad stakeholder support for the initiative.
Among those present were Regional Human Resource Manager, Sahara Group, Jessica Akintade; Mai Unguwa of Tudun Wada Community, Masaka, Alhaji Umar Dauda; Director of Waste Management, Nasarawa State Waste Management and Sanitation Authority, Ishak Abubakar Ibrahim; Director, Sahara Group Foundation, Chidilim Menakaya; and Head of Impact and Programs, Chanja Datti Recycling, Juliet Oghikori.
