Barcelona have completed the signing of Spain captain Rodri from Manchester City on a four-year contract.
The midfielder joined the La Liga champions for a reported £65.4 million after completing his medical in Barcelona on Tuesday.
Rodri, 30, spent seven seasons at Manchester City after joining from Atletico Madrid in 2019. During his time at the Etihad, he won four Premier League titles and scored the decisive goal in City’s 1-0 Champions League final victory over Inter Milan in 2023.
Barcelona confirmed that Rodri will remain at the club until June 30, 2030, describing him as one of the best players in his position.
The Spain international said joining Barcelona represented a “dream come true” after arriving in the city ahead of completing the transfer.
Barcelona had reportedly seen an initial £40 million bid rejected before eventually reaching an agreement with City.
Rodri’s recent seasons were affected by an anterior cruciate ligament injury and subsequent hamstring and groin problems, but he returned to top form with Spain during their World Cup-winning campaign.
In a farewell message to Manchester City supporters, Rodri thanked the club, teammates and fans, saying his time in Manchester had helped him grow both as a footballer and as a person.
His departure adds to City’s midfield changes this summer, following Bernardo Silva’s move to Real Madrid, while the club have also agreed to sell Tijjani Reijnders to Saudi Pro League side Al Qadsiah.
City have signed Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest for a reported £116 million and remain linked with Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi and Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez.
