Umaru Fintiri, Governor of Adamawa State, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the governor announced in a state broadcast on Friday.
The move follows a mass resignation by lawmakers in the state assembly. On Wednesday, Wesley Bathiya, Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, tendered his resignation from the PDP along with 14 other legislators. During plenary, Bathiya read the letters of withdrawal one by one, formally confirming the exit of the affected members from the ruling party.
Mahmud Kallamu, chairman of the House Committee on Information and one of the defectors, described the decision as strategic. An APC lawmaker said the party would welcome the defectors should they opt to join.
Further updates on the development are expected.
