The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has praised President Bola Tinubu for rewarding the Super Falcons for their WAFCON victory but expressed concern over lower compensation for the team’s coaching staff.
Speaking during Sunday’s Thanksgiving Service at the RCCG national headquarters in Lagos, the cleric described the President’s gesture—$100,000 and a three-bedroom apartment for each player—as “commendable.”
“In our days, all we got was a handshake,” Adeboye said. “I thank the President for the gifts to the Falcons.”
However, he questioned the rationale behind giving coaches less than players. “Without coaches, the team cannot succeed. A coach’s contribution is critical,” he noted.
Drawing from personal experience as a former youth boxer, Adeboye recalled his own coach’s tough training regime in 1960 and said it laid the foundation for personal discipline and growth.
“A good coach sees your potential and pushes you to be better,” he added.
Adeboye’s remarks come after the Super Falcons were honoured for their 10th WAFCON title, with head coach Justin Madugu and his staff receiving $50,000 each.
