Akwa United goalkeeper Adeyinka Adewale has set a new clean sheet record in the Nigeria Professional Football League.
The shot-stopper recorded his 16th clean sheet of the 2020-2021 Nigeria professional football league campaign against People’s elephant last Sunday.
Adewale Adeyinka helped the Promise Keepers to a 1-0 victory over the Aba Elephants at the Nest of champions to open five points lead at the top of the table.
The previous clean sheet record was set by Suraj Ayeleso (15) in the 2016-2017 season with Nasarawa United.
Adeyinka Adewale’s record of 16 clean sheets from 27 games is now the best return for any goalkeeper in the league for three years.
Akwa United have conceded the lowest goals in the league this season (18) and also suffered the lowest defeat (4) after 32 matches.
