Former D’Tigers forward Al-Farouq Aminu has urged Basketball stakeholders in the country to focus more on the development of the game at the grassroots level, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The former NBA players made the statement during a radio chat with Brila FM Lagos and further made it clear that there should be a massive investment in the infrastructure.
“The youths need to play at least 50-60 games a year, that’s the only way they can get better.
They also need infrastructure to be able to train 24/7, because that’s what their competitors are doing, so those are the two main things that I see that have to be improved.
We have to worry about the grassroots because worrying about those at the top doesn’t make any sense, they can take care of themselves.
“You know after a while you will end up in the NBA you make it out or whatever the case might be, you will get what you need.
Our focus must be on the grassroots because our U16 and U17 must be doing good”, he said.
Aminu was part of the victorious D’Tigers team in the 2015 Afrobasket championship.
