The 11th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) marked a pivotal moment in African cinema, as the annual event spotlighted a dynamic shift towards inclusivity and emerging talent within the continent’s storytelling industry.
Held with its trademark glamour, this year’s AMVCA showcased a deliberate blend of industry veterans and promising newcomers, underscoring a generational handover already underway.
Gbubemi Ejeye’s nomination for Best Lead Actress for her role in Farmer’s Bride and Darasimi Nnadi’s nod for Best Supporting Actress in Aburo symbolized the rise of fresh voices stepping confidently into major roles. Similarly, behind the scenes, projects such as Gone, Everything Light Touches, and The Immersive Alarm—produced by the MultiChoice Talent Factory—highlighted the growing impact of a new cadre of professionally trained African filmmakers.
Veteran directors like Robert O. Peters (Skeleton Coast) and Daniel Emeka Oriahi (The Weekend) led the Best Director category, representing a blend of experience and innovation in contemporary African storytelling.
