A two-time former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Kaduna State, Isa Ashiru, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ashiru, a former member of the House of Representatives who represented Makarfi/Kudan Federal Constituency, secured 86,113 votes to clinch the party’s ticket.
He defeated a former Commissioner for Education, Jafaru Sani, who polled 29,580 votes.
Other contestants included a former Commissioner for Education, Muhammad San-Bello, who scored 13,559 votes; Ahmed Tijjani, who polled 13,550 votes; and Shuaibu Mikati, who secured 10,819 votes.
Ashiru previously served as the PDP governorship candidate in both the 2019 and 2023 elections in Kaduna State, losing to former Governor Nasir El-Rufai in 2019 and finishing second behind Governor Uba Sani in 2023.
Meanwhile, some House of Representatives aspirants under the ADC in Kaduna State have rejected the outcome of the primaries, alleging irregularities in the process.
The aggrieved aspirants, led by Samaila Makarfi, described the exercise as a “sham” and called for a review of the entire process.
