Aston Villa have completed the signing of Argentina winger Alejandro Garnacho on a season-long loan from Premier League rivals Chelsea.
The move, announced on Thursday, makes Garnacho Villa’s fourth signing of the summer transfer window following the arrivals of Johan Manzambi, Joao Gomes and Modou Keba Cisse at the Europa League champions.
Villa manager Unai Emery welcomed the 22-year-old to the club, describing him as a talented young player who is eager to contribute to the team’s ambitions.
“We are delighted with Alejandro. He is so talented, young and he showed us his wish to help our project. We are really happy,” Emery said.
The loan move comes after reports earlier this month that new Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso informed Garnacho he would not be guaranteed regular first-team football at Stamford Bridge.
Garnacho joined Chelsea from Manchester United last season but endured a difficult debut campaign, scoring eight goals in 43 appearances across all competitions.
Chelsea have continued to reshape their squad during the transfer window, confirming on Tuesday the club-record £117 million signing of Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa.
